Bryant Sculos

Dr. Bryant William Sculos is President of Rio Grande Valley United Faculty (TFA/TSTA/NEA) and has
been a non-tenure track full-time faculty member in the Political Science program at the University of
Texas Rio Grande Valley since 2021. Bryant has served as a representative at the TSTA House of
Delegates, as well as at the NEA Representative Assembly. He also serves on the national committee of
the Independent Socialist Group. Bryant is the author of The Dialectics of Global Justice: From Liberal to
Postcapitalist Cosmopolitanism (SUNY Press, 2022) and over 100 other articles, book chapters, reviews,
and essays. In addition to his academic expertise in public policy, political theory, the politics of labor and
social movement strategy, he has been an activist and organizer for over a decade in New York,
Massachusetts, Florida, and now Texas. While a Visiting Assistant Professor at Worcester State
University, Bryant was previously a member of the Massachusetts State College Association (part of the
Massachusetts Teachers Association). In representing TFA as a board member, Bryant plans to promote
the needs of increasingly precarious and underpaid faculty of all levels in Texas, but more specifically he
hopes to draw attention and resources from the NEA as part of a longer-term effort to bring collective
bargaining back to Texas. Collective bargaining, while currently illegal in Texas, must be a central part of
TFA/TSTA's efforts to protect tenure, increase wages and benefits, and better protect programs that
promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in its best forms. Collective bargaining is a fundamental human
right--and it is the right that will allow us to protect countless others.
