Cary Wintz

Cary D. Wintz is the Distinguished Professor of History at Texas Southern University and has served on the faculty at Texas Southern University since 1971. During the 2019-2020 academic year he served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor, Dean’s Faculty of History, U.S. Air Force Academy. He is a long-time member of the Texas Faculty Association, has served on the TFA Board of Directors, and is currently seeking reelection to the position of TFA Vice President. He is an active scholar the author, co-author, or editor of a number of books on the Harlem Renaissance, twentieth century African American history, race and culture, and Texas history. He is a fellow of the Texas State Historical Association, and of the
East Texas Historical Association, and a member of a dozen professional organizations including the American Historical Association, the Organization of American Historians, and the Western Historical Association. He is a native Houstonian and a graduate of Rice University and Kansas State University.
